Defensive Driving Courses

The Monticello Senior Center is partnering with the Minnesota Safety Council to provide defensive driving classes. People age 55+ are eligible to receive a 10% auto insurance discount The class needs to be repeated every three years in order to continue receiving the discount.

8-hour classes are no longer be required.  First-time participants can take a 4-hour class.

Classes will held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following dates:

March 18th

April 15th

May 20th

June 17th

Class size is limited, and you must register and pay in advance. The cost is $24 per person payable by cash or check at the senior center.  Call and reserve your spot today.

Moments of Life Doula Program

Join Moments Hospice on Thursday, March 5th from 1-2 p.m. for a community education to explore the growing movement for end of life Doulas and the sacred support they offer. You will learn how you can step into this meaningful role thru a FREE 6 month training program. Sign up at the center or call Adrah at 507-594-0524 if you would like to attend.

MN Foot Care Service

Lacey Leonard RN and certified foot care specialist will be here on Friday, March 10th from 8:30-4:00 to preform foot care services. Including nail trimming, corn and callus reduction and moisturizing of feet and lower legs. Appointments are 45 min to 1 hour. The cost of the service is $55 made payable to MN Footcare Services. Sign up at the Senior Center.

Blood Pressure

Stop by the Senior Center on Tuesday, March 10th from 11-12 p.m. to get you blood pressure checked. No appointment needed. 

Pool Tournament

The February pool tournament will be held at the Monticello Senior Center on Wednesday, March 11  9 a.m. at the Elk River Senior Center Space is limited sign up at the Senior Center Cost is $5

St. Patrick's Day Bingo

Join us Monday, March 16th at 1 p.m. and try your luck at St. Pattys Day Bingo! A big thank you to Comfort Keepers, who will be sponsoring the prizes for this event. Enjoy a sweet treat and coffee while you play. Space is limited be sure to sign up in advance

Senior Fitness St. Patricks Day Potluck

Tuesday, March 17th at noon in the Warehouse St. Pattys Day tradition with Donna. Calling all fitness participants to bring a “green” snack to share. No need to sign up. 

New Member Meet & Greet

Enjoy a treat and hot coffee on Tuesday, March 17th at 10 a.m. for a casual meet and greet. This is a great opportunity to meet other members, get all the details on the activities we offer as well as volunteer opportunities at the center. We look forward to meeting you and showing what makes our Senior center so special. If you are interested and unable to make it let the front desk know and we can set up a different time to meet with you. 

St. Patrick's Day Luncheon

Wednesday, March 18th at 12:00 p.m. we will enjoy a delicious lunch catered by L & L Homestyle Cafe of Corn Beef and Cabbage, boiled Baby red Potatoes, Boiled Carrots and Irish Soda Bread. Cost is 12.00 Paid in advance. The Monticello Library is sponsoring the music entertainment. David Malmberg will be here to share his talent of integrating styles of pop, jazz and folk genres creating a unique synthesis in his musical arrangements. There are no to go meals for this event. Thank you!

Senior Fitness Open House

Thursday, March 19th at 1:45 in the warehouse. Come and exercise at the Monticello Community Center. Many seniors qualify for a free membership though their insurance. Get more info and take a tour. 

Prairies Edge Overnight Casino Granite Falls

On March 23-24th We will be sharing a bus with Rogers Senior Center for an overnight casino trip. Price per person single $142.00 and a double $124.00. The trip includes coach bus transportation, overnight accommodations at the hotel. $50 on players card $40 on the 1st day and $10 on the 2nd day. You will arrive at the casino at noon, rooms will be ready around 1 p.m. You will depart the casino at noon on the 24th and arrive back at around 3 p.m. Sign up at the Senior Center.

Minnesota Barn Quilt Trails

Thursday, March 26th 10:00 a.m. cost $9. Pieces of art that adorn the side of barns and buildings throughout the state are set up not only to pay homage to heritage or interests but to bring people into an area. Jay Grammond will lead you around the state through 8 barn Quilt Trails to give you a sampling of what is out there in hopes you make your own road trip someday. Sign up at the center 

Outdoor Travel Presentation

Friday, March 27th 1-2 p.m. Learn about upcoming small group trips with the Wilderness Inquiry, a local nonprofit dedicated to offering outdoor adventures for people of all ages and abilities. Chat with Wilderness Inquiry staff members about the locations that catch your eye and have a chance to ask questions about senior travel. 

Plan to Celebrate your Life

Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Homes will be here Monday, March 30 from 11-1:00 p.m. to discuss a thoughtful and engaging conversation about preplanning your funeral, one of the most meaningful gifts you can give your children and family. This relaxed discussion will explore common myths, practical considerations, and the spiritual aspects of planning your own end of life celebration. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited sign up at the center to reserve your spot. This event is brought to you by Senior Community Services. 

Transforming Loss into Wisdom. A Workshop for Healing & Growth

Thursday, April 9th at 1 p.m. Cost $8. Diane Lynch will be here presenting a 1 hour interactive workshop. Participants will explore healthy ways to acknowledge and process loss, rather than suppress it. We will learn tools to navigate the physical and emotional effects of grief, and pathways to transform pain into deeper resilience and wisdom so that, over time, your loss no longer defines you but instead deepens your capacity to live fully and with purpose. 

Eating Vegan Seminar

Monticello Senior Center Spring Breakfast Fundraiser

Join us for a delicious breakfast  on Sunday, April 26 8 a.m.-noon for all you can eat scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, pancakes, juice, milk and coffee. Purchase your tickets in advance at the Senior Center for $9 or $10 at the door. Kids 6-12 years of age are $5 and kids 5 and under are free. We are currently looking for volunteers to help at the breakfast. If you are willing to help please sign up at the front desk. Thank you!

Free Monticello Community Center Memberships

Do you have a Medicare Supplement plan?  If so, you may qualify for a free membership to the Monticello Community Center! 

A membership helps you stay active and healthy and includes use of all the Community Center amenities and classes.  Just stop by the Monticello Community Center Guest Service counter for more information.

Memory Cafe

Memory cafes offer respite and support at the same time for caregivers of someone experiencing memory loss. An activity takes place at the same time as a caregiver support group. Caregivers can choose to join the activity or the support group.  Our funding source does not cover the total cost of the Memory Café, so we would appreciate a cost share of $5.00 per caregiver.  By sharing the cost you are helping with the sustainability of our program!
